TURN YOUR VAN INTO A POWERFUL SELLING TOOL

The difference between a one dollar bill and a hundred dollar bill is the message on the paper. It is the same with all advertising pieces. Any piece from business cards to the side of your van has the potential to be something that generates no sales or tons of sales — it all depends on the message. Every carpet cleaner/restorer has a van, but very few people view them as anything more than a gas guzzler to get you from point A to point B. Rarely do cleaners/restorers drive around hoping to make a sale off the side of their van. Hope does not make sales. Good marketing makes sales. Here are six tips to turn your van into a powerful selling tool for your company.

1. Free recorded message

The three most powerful words in advertising are “free recorded message.” Having a message that shares valuable information with consumers attracts those who are interested in what you have to offer, and gives them a way to learn more without fear of being pressured by a live salesperson. It also lends credibility because when something is recorded and put out in the public, people will trust the message more. 2. Secondary way to respond

Promoting your cleaning company website on your van, and sharing what they can learn from your site, is also another way to leverage your vehicle as a selling tool. Your website is your full-color brochure, so driving prospects to the site to learn more about the value you have to offer gives you the opportunity to make a sale. Using testimonials on the site to show social proof on how great your company is and sharing expertise through tips and other information will robotically create a selling process to convert interested prospects into ready-to-buy customers. Use your van to get them to your website.

3. A big, bold guarantee

Competence in business starts with guaranteeing your work, so if you cannot give a guarantee then you shouldn’t be in business. Guarantees remove the fear of people working with you, and they can greatly boost your sales conversion rates, so be sure to put your bold guarantee on your van. 5. Use social proof

If you apply for Ethical Services Providership, you can use social proof on your van by promoting that you are a Proud and Trusted Member of Ethical Services.

On your Ethical Services Provider Listing, your Clients can rate their experience with you provide testimonial that are published to your listing.

You can say you are the best in town, but other people’s words will always be a thousand times more persuasive in convincing others to do business with you.

6. A Brochure/Business Card Holder

Another great way to leverage the side of your van is to go to your local office supply store and get a clear brochure holder and magnet it on the side of your van. You may also want to use a florescent sticker that says “Take One” on the brochure holder to draw attention to it. Inside the brochure holder, offer a “Free Room of Carpet Cleaning.” You can also use education based marketing, consumer awareness information, package pricing and offer other free information on your services in those brochure.

As you can see from the video above, if your van is parked in a high-end commercial or residential neighborhood leverage that positioning with the right information on your van. Make it sell for you.

  3. Good suggestions! I have just stipped off all my old lettering off my van and box truck and was going to similarly change it to what this van shows. What better advertising than this type of moving billboard. I am implementing so many changes which i am sure will pay off. Since the October conference and last Platinum meeting i have learned so much.

  4. Great video Joe – We would have had fully lettered trucks (including website/ethical services), caution signs over the hoses, and logoed walk-in mats at the front door. And if someone walked up expressing interest in us, we’d have had consumer awareness guides and brochures for them!

  5. Hi Joe,
    Not a carpet cleaner these days but a big fan of your marketing methodologies. They work with any business.

    Vehicle Advertising is a must and yet is overlooked by nearly everyone.

    I would like to offer something else that I do that I tell me clients to do that works great for any business and I think this may be one of my second best mobile marketing ideas and have been doing this since the 90’s.

    You can buys these at Office Depot and do them yourself or have them made, but get the Business Card Sized Magnets and at the top write PLEASE TAKE ME and then put your info with perhaps a free off on it and them post several dozen on your vehicle. They work great and people will take them and stick them on their refrigerator or filing cabinet and they will get used.

    I also have a couple of questions and maybe someone else can help me out here. From one of my other businesses I get a ton of Carpet Cleaning leads and can get a lot more from all around the country. Now I know they are worth something and I would like to get them to someone that can handle them.

    That being said…. A) How can I find people that I know will ethically do a good job so that my referrals will be happy and not be mad at me for referring a schmuck and secondly, how much should I charge for them? I only want to pass them on if I can figure out a win-win scenario.

    I can probably get in a couple of thousand referrals a week but I don’t want to bother with them unless I can figure out the above.

    Any assistance would be gladly appreciated.

  7. No doubt that lettering your van is a powerful selling tool, I have been lettering my vans since 1984 and I used to always put my Logo first big and large with my services listed with small print underneath.
    Well since meeting Joe and learning direct response marketing I reversed the way I lettered my vans. I put my USP front and foremost with my services and info primary and my company name secondary. I got way more jobs by doing it his way. Also I started using a sandwich board sign that I set up in front of the house when cleaning, this has really been my secret weapon and has worked 1 out of 5 jobs, I Actually watched someone take the flyer out of the display box and then got a call from my office alerting me of a job that just came in. It all happened within minutes of her taking my info. By The way this has happened many times. The flyer that is being used in the sandwich board sign is the real secret weapon!The Flyer is only available from Piranha Marketing and has taken years to develop.

    I like to use “take one” stickers like you mentioned. Sticking benefit statements and contact information all over the van has worked well in the past.

    Always hate to see the ” Licensed & Insured.”
